Remote Access Guide: Connecting to the Office VPN

To access certain Lender Portals and internal office resources from home, you must connect via our secure DrayTek VPN. This ensures your connection appears to come from the Office IP Address, which is required for security and compliance.

1: One-Time Installation

  1. Download the Software: Download the DrayTek Smart VPN Client for your computer.

  2. Install: Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts. You may be asked to restart your computer.

2: One-Time Configuration

Once installed, open the Smart VPN Client and follow these steps to set up your profile:

  1. Click Profiles on the left sidebar, then click Add.

  2. Profile Name: “Office VPN”

  3. Type: Select SSL VPN Tunnel.

  4. IP or Hostname: [Insert the Office Public IP here, as provided by IT]

  5. User Name & Password: Enter the unique credentials provided to you by IT.

  6. Advanced Options (Crucial):

    • Click the Advanced button.

    • Toggle ON the setting: “Route All Traffic through VPN”.

    • Click OK to save the profile.

3: Connecting

Open the Draytek Smart VPN Client

  • On the main “Connect” page, ensure your Office VPN profile is selected.

  • Click the Connect toggle.

  • The Subnet Warning: A message may appear saying: “The local subnet and the remote subnet will interrupt each other.”

    • Action: Simply click OK.

    • Note: This ensures your computer prioritizes the office network over your home Wi-Fi for work tasks.

  • Add More Routing: A window will open offering you the chance to add extra routing options.

    • Action: Simply click OK.
  • Once the status turns green, you are officially connected via the Office IP.

Important Rules & Troubleshooting

  • Lender Portals: If a portal says “Access Denied” or “Unrecognised IP,” disconnect the VPN and check that “Route All Traffic through VPN” is enabled in your profile settings before reconnecting.

  • Internet Speed: When connected, your internet speed is limited by the office’s upload capacity. Avoid streaming video (YouTube/Netflix) while the VPN is active to maintain the best performance.

  • Home Devices: While the VPN is active, you may be unable to see or use your home printer or smart home devices. This is a security feature. Simply disconnect the VPN to use these devices again.

  • Session Timeout: For security, the VPN will not stay connected indefinitely. If you step away for a long period or restart your computer, you will need to manually toggle the “Connect” button again.
